About

The Zebra label printer is suited to printing customer names on your drink orders, printing barcode labels for your retail products, and for printing random weight barcodes. How you set up will depend on how you want to use the label printer. There are three options:

(A) Docket Labels
(B) Barcode Labels
(C) Random Weight Barcode Labels - follow this guide instead, as it's a longer procedure.

(A) Docket Labels

"Docket labels" print when you send through an order. Instead of a standard order docket printing out on a receipt printer, a sticker prints out on the Zebra label printer.

This is a handy way of attaching your customer names and drink orders to takeaway cups.

You will need to configure an "Item Label" printing template.

Follow the Docket Labels instructions below.

(B) Barcode Labels

"Barcode labels" print when you press the Label button on the Products page. This is a handy way of attaching barcodes to your products so you can scan them when you sell them.

You will need to configure a "Product Label" printing template.

Follow the Barcode Labels instructions below.

In either case, you will need to refer to the Zebra Printer Setup section as well.

(A) Docket Labels

i) Printer Location

  • If you want to print docket labels for all of your products, you do not need to set up any printer locations. Skip to Printing Templates.

  • If you want to set up docket labels for only some of your products, you need to set a new printer location. Follow these instructions:

  1. Log into the Abacus backend portal (app.abacus.co)

  2. Go to Print Settings > Printer Locations

  3. Click New Printer Location

  4. Call it "Label Printer"

5. Go to Products > Products, and assign the label printer to all of your products that you wish to print labels for. (See Printer Locations.)

ii) Printing Templates

An "Item Label" printing template needs to be set up so the label printer knows what to print.

  1. Log into the Abacus backend portal (app.abacus.co)

  2. Go to Print Settings > Printing Templates

  3. Click Add Printing Template

  4. Set the subject as "Item Label", and set the Printer Location to Label Printer

  5. Under Template, copy and paste the following code:

[label_offset(x:70,y:0)][label_size(width:140,height:0)]#[order_number] [current_time] ([item_docket_number]/[total_docket_number])
[customer_name]
[order_note]
<font-large>[item_name]</font-large>[item_extras]

5. Save.

iii) POS Setup

  1. Connect the Zebra printer (see Zebra Printer Setup section below)

  2. Sync printing templates on the POS

3. Set the Label Printer Location if you are printing docket labels for only some of your products.
4. When you complete a transaction, a label will print out

(B) Print labels via Products Screen (barcodes)

POS*

*You must use Abacus version 2.5.162 or later

  1. On Abacus POS*, open the Printers menu

  2. Press Refresh

  3. Connect to the Zebra printer as you would connect to a standard printer (see Printer Configurations)

4. Test print to confirm that the connection is established
5. Set the Label Printer Location if: you are printing docket labels for only some of your products [See (A) Docket Labels (i) Printer Location in this article].

6. Press the printer name at the top of the dropdown box and rename it "Label Printer".

Align printing

If the printing is not aligned correctly, you will need to change the values in the printing templates.

  1. Go to the printing template

  2. Alter the label offset and label size values in this part of the template:

[label_offset(x:90,y:20][label_size(width:120,height:0)]

3. Sync receipt templates on the POS
4. Retry printing
5. You may need to repeat these steps with different label offset and label size values as a form of trial and error to find the right alignment for your labels.
