How to set up multilingual Table Ordering

Enable Language Selection to serve customers in Japanese, Chinese, or Korean on your Table Ordering App (2nd generation)

By default, the Table Ordering app will display in English. You can also make it display in:

  • Japanese

  • Chinese

  • Korean

When you turn on Language Selection, users will be able to use your Table Ordering App in any of those languages above, so you will need to have translations for all of them. When you turn off Language Selection, users will only be able to use the Table Ordering app in English.

Translate your Menu Tabs

  1. On the backend, go to iPad Menu > Table Ordering Menu

  2. Go to Edit

  3. Click Tab Configuration

  4. Select the Language that you want to edit

  5. Enter the tab translations for those languages

  6. Click Save

  7. Click Publish

  8. On the Master POS, do a Master Sync. When prompted, Notify Clients to sync.

Translate your Product Names and Descriptions

Translated product names and descriptions should be set in the product details. These will also change the translations for your self-ordering kiosk and online ordering.

If you want translations to be different on the Table Ordering app, you would need to create an Alternative Label instead.

  1. On the backend, go to Products > Products.

  2. Go to Edit > Advanced tab > Multilingual table

  3. Click Add New Property

  4. In the table, select the Language

  5. Fill out the Product Name and Short Description. If you use the Full Description, the Full Description will be used instead. You only need to use the Short Description, unless you want the Table Ordering description to be different to the Online Ordering product description and Self-Ordering Kiosk product description. (Online Ordering and Kiosk menus use the Short Description, not the Full Description.)

  6. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all available languages other than English: Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

  7. Click Save

  8. On the Master POS, do a Master Sync. When prompted, Notify Clients to sync.

  9. The Table Ordering app will sync the product translations.

Translate Alternative Labels

If you have a multilingual menu, it is recommended that you set up the translations in the Product Details, to keep your menu maintenance as simple as possible.

If, however, you want there to be specific translations on the Table Ordering App (which do not appear on your other platforms), you need to create Alternative Labels.

  1. On the backend, go to iPad menu > Table Ordering Menu and Edit the menu with the product you want to create the label for

  2. On the Menu grid, click the Edit button for the product that you want to create an Alternative Label for

  3. Underneath Alternative Label, select the Language that you want to create an alternative label for

  4. Enter the translation in the blank field

  5. Select the other Languages and add their translations, too

  6. Click Save

  7. On the Table Ordering Menu screen, click Publish

  8. On the POS, do a Master Sync, and when prompted, Notify Clients

Import Translations in Bulk

If you are experienced with editing your products in bulk using spreadsheets, you can import your translations in bulk.

  1. Create an XLSX file following the format:

Product Code

Product Name

Short Description

Language

EXAMPLE1

コーヒー

おいしい飲み物

ja-JP

EXAMPLE1

咖啡

美味的饮料

zh-CN

EXAMPLE1

커피

맛있는 음료

ko-KR

The translations will be matched to the products with the same Product Code.

Make sure you save your file as a XLSX, not as a CSV.

2. On the backend, go to POS Settings > Bulk Import

3. Under Import, select Product from the dropdown

4. Click SELECT CSV/XLSX FILE

5. Select your newly created XLSX file

6. Click Import

7. The translations will be added to your Products

Turn on multilingual menu

Make sure that you have:

  • Saved your changes on the backend

  • Connected your POS to your Table Ordering app

  • Done a Master Sync on your POS

  • Tapped Notify Clients when prompted by the POS Master sync

  1. On the Table Ordering app, tap Powered by ABACUS

  2. Under Languages, toggle on Enable Language selection.

  3. You will immediately be able to use the Table Ordering app in:

  • English

  • Japanese

  • Chinese

  • Korean

To switch languages, tap the Globe icon on the top right corner of the screen and select a language from the dropdown box.
