POS - How to connect Master and Slave + Configure as Slave or Master

Definitions: Master: The Primary iPad that your other iPads will be sending information to, in short it will be central to all POS operations as. It's responsible for processing things such as Sales data, table status and co-ordinating printing in restaurant environments. Slave: The secondary iPad that you use to process orders or take payments, that will send information such as orders, table status Requirements: Your POS iPad must have local network enabled. This setting can be enabled in iPad Settings>ABACUS>Local Network and ensure the toggle is green.

How to get to the POS connection page

  1. First you will need to press the dropdown box on the top right of the POS App

  2. Select Settings

  3. On the Gray bar, you will need to select "Connection"

  4. Once on the connection page, you should see "Your Device Address" & Server mode with two button under it "Master" & "Slave"

How to set POS to Master

  1. By Default the Slave Server Mode will be selected, first thing to check is to make sure there's no devices listed on the server list on the right and if there are any, please press the X listed next to each device.

  2. Once all devices have been cleared off the server list, press Master

  3. You will receive a prompt for a PIN, this will be the Day & Month (Example: 24th of May. PIN = 2405)

  4. Once you enter the PIN, your POS iPad should now be a Master.

HOW TO SET POS TO SLAVE & CONNECT TO MASTER

  1. If the POS is currently set to Master and you would like to switch it to a Slave, first thing to check is to make sure there's no devices listed on the server list on the right and if there are any, please press the X listed next to each device.

  2. Press Slave under "Server Mode"

  3. You will now see a new box appear under the Slave button, that will have a portion of a Device Address in it and a blue connect button to the right.

  4. Go to your POS that is set as Master and note down the Device Address (i.e 192.168.9.101)

  5. Now on your Slave POS iPad, enter the address of your Master POS into the box next to the connect button.

  6. Your Slave POS should now be connected.

    How to Connect to the Master POS

  1. On your Slave iPad, press Settings on the drop down box on the top right of your POS.

  2. Press the Connection Tab

  3. Enter the IP Address/Device Address of your Master POS

  4. Press the Connect button

  5. Congratulation, your POS devices are now connected.

Can't Switch Master to Slave?

  • You may have unsettled orders, you will need to go to held orders from the drop down box and settle all the active orders.

  • There may be Devices that are connecting back to the Server list, you will just need to clear them.
