How to print order notes and dish notes on dockets and labels ([order_note] and [item_note])

Quick answer: Use [order_note] for a note on the whole order, and [item_note] for a note on each dish. Put [item_note] between [item_list] and [/item_list] in docket and receipt templates. There's no [product_note] placeholder. Save the template, then sync receipt templates on the POS.

Who this is for

This is for venue owners and managers who edit printing templates in Nomni Console for Nomni POS on iPad or Android.

Which note placeholder to use

  • [order_note]: the note for the whole order. Put it anywhere outside the item list.

  • [item_note]: the note on one dish. In an Order Docket, Invoice Receipt, Order Bill or Cancel Docket, it must sit between [item_list] and [/item_list] so it prints under each item.

  • [customer_name]: the customer name entered on the order.

Placeholders are case-sensitive on Android. Type them in lowercase, exactly as shown, with square brackets.

Add notes to a docket

  1. Log in to Nomni Console and go to Print Settings > Printing Templates.

  2. Click the pencil icon on the template you want to change, for example Order Docket.

  3. To print dish notes, find the item list and add [item_note] inside it. For example: [item_list][item_quantity] x [item_name] [item_note][item_extras][/item_list]

  4. To print the order note, add [order_note] on its own line above or below the item list.

  5. Click Save.

  6. On the Master POS iPad, go to Settings > Sync and tap SYNC RECEIPT TEMPLATES FROM BACKEND. On Nomni POS for Android, run a Master Sync.

  7. Place a test order with an order note and a dish note, and print it.

What you should see: the dish note under that item, and the order note where you put [order_note].

Item labels

The Item Label template prints one label per item, so item placeholders such as [item_name] and [item_note] work there without [item_list]. [customer_name] and [order_note] also work on labels. Label templates have their own size and layout settings, so change only the text and placeholders unless you know the label settings.

If a placeholder doesn't print

  • The line is blank: the order has no note or customer name. Add one to the order and print again.

  • Dish notes don't show: check [item_note] is between [item_list] and [/item_list].

  • The placeholder prints as text: check the spelling and the square brackets. There is no [product_note] placeholder. Use [item_note].

  • Nothing changed after you saved: sync receipt templates on the POS. Check you edited the template that printer uses, for example the Order Docket for that printer location.

  • Your store is part of a group: some group stores use the head office's templates. If your changes don't show, ask whoever manages your head office account to edit the template there, or contact us.
