About
Generally, tax rates are calculated based on what currency you have selected, e.g. if you've selected AUD, the tax rate is 10% (Australian Goods and Services Tax, GST).
However, there may be times when you need to create a tax rate group that combines multiple tax rates.
Note: This is a hidden feature that can only be accessed via https://Nomni Console (app.abacus.co)/taxrate
IMPORTANT:
Once you create a tax rate group, you need to apply it to all of your taxable products, otherwise your products will not have Tax, even if your product is ticked as Taxable
As tax rate groups cannot be deleted, the transition from default Tax calculation to using Tax Groups is permanent
Any non-Taxable products will still be non-Taxable, and will not require Tax Groups
How to use Tax Groups
Create Tax Rates
Click New Tax Rate
Enter the Name
Enter the Tax Rate (%)
4. Repeat for all your different kinds of tax rates
Combine Tax Rates (Create Tax Rate Groups)

WET & GST
You can set up your Wine Equalisation Tax (WET) and Goods and Services Tax (GST) by using tax groups.
Please note that this is provided as an example only, we recommend that you check your tax setup with your accountant.
Referring to the above instructions, create two Tax Rates
WET: 18.9768%
GST: 10%
2. Create a New Tax Group with both tax rates, called "WET & GST". Set the GST as a Compound rate.
3. Save. You should end up with a WET & GST of 30.87%
4. Now you will need to create a Tax Group for your products that do not attract WET & GST, i.e. products that only attract GST. Click New Tax Group.
5. Call this Tax Group "GST Only", and add just the GST, then Save Changes.
6. You should end up with two Tax Groups: GST only ($10) and WET & GST (30.87%)
7. Go to the Product Details of each product and select the right tax group for it, e.g. WET & GST for your wine products, and GST only for crackers.
8. Sync All Products and Modifiers on Nomni POS
How to set Tax Groups in bulk (advanced Excel spreadsheet users only)
Once you've decided to create a Tax Group, you need to set a Tax Group for all of your taxable products, otherwise your products will not have tax.
We recommend that only advanced Excel spreadsheet users change Tax Groups via bulk import. Otherwise, users are advised to update Tax Groups one at a time via the Product Details.
Export a CSV file of all of your products
2. Your Product CSV file will be downloaded. Open it.
3. Select your Product Codes, Product Name (optional), Taxable, and Tax Rate Group columns and copy them to your clipboard (Ctrl + C)
4. Create a New Excel Spreadsheet file and paste the columns (Ctrl + V)
5. Under the header, Taxable, ensure that TRUE is filled in for each taxable product, and FALSE is filled in for each non-taxable product.
6. Every taxable product needs a Tax Rate Group. Under the header "Tax Rate Group", and fill each row (of a taxable product) with the exact name of your Tax Rate Group.
Non-taxable products do not need a Tax Rate Group.
6. Save the spreadsheet as a CSV File with the name "Tax Rate Groups"
7. Go to POS Settings > Bulk Import. Under Import, select Product then click Select CSV/XLSX File
8. Select the Tax Rate Groups CSV file then click, Open
9. Click Import, and the Tax Groups for your products will be updated.
10. You can double-check to see if the Taxable Tax Groups have applied by going into a product's details.
