Quick answer: To set up the card terminal, open the kiosk Settings > Payment Methods and tap your card payment method. For Tyro, enter the Merchant ID and Terminal ID and tap Authorise. For Adyen, choose the Connection Type, Terminal model, Terminal SN and Terminal IP, then tap Save. If the kiosk shows "Unable to get the payment result", check the terminal first. Then tap Staff Assistance, enter the kiosk password, and tap Payment approved or Payment declined to match what the terminal shows.

This article is for the Nomni Kiosk app on Android (version 1.0.80).

Messages customers see during card payment

On screen

What it means / what to do

"Pay with Card". "Please proceed by inserting your card into the integrated payment terminal to complete the payment."

Normal. The customer pays on the terminal.

"Processing your payment". "Please wait a moment…"

Normal. Wait.

"Payment failed". "Please try again or use an alternative payment method."

The terminal declined or cancelled the payment. The customer can try again or pay another way.

"Unable to connect to terminal". "Please contact our staff for assistance."

The kiosk can’t reach the terminal. Check the terminal is on and on the same network, then see the steps below.

"Unable to get the payment result". "Please contact our staff for assistance."

The kiosk doesn’t know if the payment went through. Follow "Fix a stuck payment" below.

Fix a stuck payment ("Unable to get the payment result")

  1. Look at the card terminal (or your terminal provider’s app or portal) and check whether the payment was approved.

  2. On the kiosk, tap Staff Assistance.

  3. Enter the kiosk password and tap Authorise.

  4. If the terminal shows the payment as approved, tap Payment approved. If it was declined or you can’t find it, tap Payment declined.

Important: only tap Payment approved when you can see that the payment was approved. Otherwise the order completes without the customer paying.

Some terminal screens use different labels. Tyro shows "Unable to determine the payment result" with Payment Approved / Payment Declined. Adyen shows Cancel Payment / Payment approved.

If the kiosk restarted during a payment

When the app opens again, it reloads the last order and asks the terminal for the payment result. Wait for it to finish before you start a new order.
