How to fix Nomni Console sync problems

Resolve server syncing errors

Quick answer: Most sync errors are fixed by force-closing and reopening Nomni POS, then running a Master Sync (Settings > Sync > MASTER SYNC) and waiting for "Master Sync Successful". If it still fails, check the iPad is online by opening a website in Safari, then work through the steps below.

If you are getting an error when you try to sync your app to Nomni Console (aka server), try out these troubleshooting steps.

Note: The Nomni POS app is being rebranded to Nomni/Nomni POS. While the app name and branding (e.g., app icon) are changing, all features and your data will remain unchanged.

Restart app

  1. Double press the home key on your iPad (or swipe up from the bottom and pause to open the app switcher on newer iPads).

  2. Swipe away the Nomni application. This closes or "kills" the app (force close).

  3. Re-open Nomni POS by pressing the Nomni icon on your home screen.

  4. Log in using your credentials.

Run a Master Sync in the Nomni POS app

  1. In the Nomni POS app, go to Settings > Sync.

  2. Tap MASTER SYNC. This pulls all of your details down from the server again.

  3. Wait for the "Master Sync Successful" message before taking more orders. If it fails, carry on with the internet checks below.

Confirm internet connection

If you aren't connected to the internet, you're not going to be able to sync to the server.

Check that you are connected to the Internet.

  1. Open Safari and go to Google or any website

  2. If you get an error page immediately, the iPad is not connected to the internet.
If you get an error page after some time, the internet may be running slowly.

In the case that the iPad is not connected to the internet:

  1. Check the iPad Wi-Fi settings. Ensure that it is connected to your Nomni POS network.

  2. Check the router. The router has a ‘Globe’ sign that should be blue/green. If it’s not, it means it is not connected to the internet. Ensure that the cables have been inserted correctly and that the router is switched on.

  3. Turn the router off at the wall, wait 10 seconds, and then turn it on again.

  4. Confirm with your provider that your internet plan is still valid.5. Turn OFF "Private Address" in the iPad Wi-Fi settings (the switch should be grey when off).

  5. Ensure "Local Network" is enabled for the Nomni POS app by going to iPad Settings > scroll to Nomni POS > turn ON "Local Network" (the switch should be green).

In the case that the your browser is loading pages slowly:

If it loads for a while, but then fails, it means you have internet connection but it’s very slow. Your server sync may be failing because it is timing out.

  1. Turn the router off at the wall, wait 10 seconds, and then turn it on again.

  2. Contact your internet provider.

Resolving Authentication Errors

  1. Force Quit and Relaunch the App

    • On iPads with a Home button: Double-press the Home button, find the app card, and swipe it up to close. Reopen the app and try logging in again.

    • On iPads without a Home button: Swipe up from the bottom and pause to open the app switcher, find the app, and swipe it up to close. Reopen and try again.

  2. Adjust Wi-Fi Settings

    • Open Settings > Wi-Fi.

    • Tap the “i” next to your POS network.

    • Turn OFF Private Wi‑Fi Address.

    • Turn OFF Limit IP Address Tracking.

  3. Enable Local Network Access for Nomni

    • Open Settings.

    • Scroll to Nomni (or Apps > Nomni if grouped).

    • Turn ON Local Network (the switch should be green). After making these changes, force quit the app again and reopen it to clear the session. Attempt authentication once more.

  4. Use Google DNS
    - Open Settings > Wi-Fi.
    - Tap the “i” next to your POS network
    - Go to DNS settings > Manual
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as new entries > Save

Try syncing other information

Check that you are able to sync other information. This means that when you contact support, you can pinpoint which sync is not working for you.

  1. In the Nomni POS app, go to Settings > Sync and try any other sync. Try SYNC STAFF LIST FROM BACKEND because there is not a lot of information and it is usually fast.

  2. If it also fails, try another one such as SYNC MODIFIERS FROM BACKEND.

  3. If you are unable to sync anything, then there might be an access error. Basically, the "token" that the app has is expired or invalid and you are being rejected from the server. To get a new token, restart the app and log in again.

Step-by-step: fix a Slave POS that won't sync with the Master

  1. Check every iPad is on the same venue Wi-Fi.

  2. On each iPad, turn off Private Wi-Fi Address and Limit IP Address Tracking (see Fix Wi-Fi drops on your Nomni POS iPad).

  3. Restart the Master iPad, then the Slave iPads.

  4. On the Master, open Settings > Connection and note the DEVICE ADDRESS.

  5. On the Slave, open Settings > Connection, enter the Master's address and tap connect.

  6. On the Master, tap SYNC ALL CLIENTS.

What you should see: the Slave appears under Server List on the Master, and orders sent from the Slave show on the Master.

Still stuck?

  1. Clear the Server List on both iPads.

  2. Enter the Master's address on the Slave again and connect.

  3. Send us the Device Register Code of both iPads (Settings > Device Options).
