How to fix a CAS scale that won't connect to Nomni POS

Restart the scale connection, fix 'Cannot connect to the Cas scale', and stop daily disconnections.

Quick answer: In Nomni POS, go to Settings > External Devices > CAS Scale, check Enable Scale is on and the port is filled in, then tap Restart Scale Server. The scale usually stops connecting when the iPad's IP address changes, for example after a power cut or router restart. On Nomni POS for Android, use Settings > Scale Settings instead (see "Nomni POS for Android" below).

Use this guide if your CAS scale won't connect to Nomni POS, keeps disconnecting, or shows connected but won't weigh.

How the scale connects

The scale sends weights to the POS iPad over your venue network. In Nomni POS, the scale settings show the iPad's device IP address and a port number, and the scale is set up to send to that address and port.

If the iPad's address changes, for example after a power cut, internet outage or router restart, the scale can no longer find the POS.

Quick fix: restart the scale connection

  1. In Nomni POS, go to Settings > External Devices > CAS Scale. If the page is locked, use a manager or admin login.

  2. Check Enable Scale is on and the port number is filled in.

  3. Tap Restart Scale Server. You should see "Successfully restart the scale server" (Nomni POS for iOS only).

  4. Place an item on the scale. When the scale connects, the POS shows "Successfully connect to the scale" (Nomni POS for iOS only).

If you see "Cannot connect to the Cas scale" (Nomni POS for iOS only)

This message means the POS couldn't reach the scale. Check:

  1. Power and cables. The scale is on and its network cable or converter is plugged in to the router.

  2. Same network. The POS iPad is on the POS Wi-Fi, not the guest Wi-Fi. See Venue Wi-Fi or internet down: what to do.

  3. The iPad address hasn't changed. Compare the device IP address on the CAS Scale settings page with the address the scale was set up with. If it has changed, contact support. We'll reconnect the scale and can set a fixed address so it doesn't happen again.

  4. The right iPad. The scale connects to one iPad only. Make sure you're using the iPad the scale was set up on.

Scale disconnects every day or after the internet drops

This almost always means the iPad gets a new IP address when the router restarts. The fix is a fixed IP address (DHCP reservation) for that iPad on the router. If you have a Nomni-supplied router, contact support and we'll set it up. If you use your own router, ask your IT provider.

Scale shows connected but the weight doesn't come through

  • Check the scale reads zero with nothing on it. If the POS says "Please zero the scale" (Nomni POS for iOS only), press the zero key on the scale.

  • If the scale has an output setting, it should send weights automatically (continuous or auto output), not only when a key is pressed.

  • Keep the Nomni POS app open during service. Force closing the app drops the scale connection. Tap Restart Scale Server after reopening.

  • If items show the wrong unit (for example kg instead of grams), check the item's weight settings in Nomni Console and run a Master Sync, then contact support if it continues.

Nomni POS for Android

On Nomni POS for Android, the scale is set up in a different place:

  1. Go to Settings > Scale Settings.

  2. Pick your scale: CAS PD-II, Magellan Integrated Scale or CAS PND.

  3. For a product sold by weight, turn on Weight Required in the product.

If the scale drops out, the POS shows Warning: "Scale disconnected. Please reconnect the scale to continue." Reconnect the scale to carry on.

Still not working?

Contact support with your store name or Store ID, the scale model, a photo of the scale's display, and a screenshot of Settings > External Devices > CAS Scale showing the device IP address and port.
