Why does the card surcharge stay off after I remove it for one order on Nomni POS?

How Surcharge Options works on the payment screen, and what to do if the card surcharge stays off for the next orders.

Quick answer: On the payment screen, tap Surcharge Options . The POS may ask for a login with the right access. Turn on Remove standard surcharge , Remove credit card surcharge , or both, for this order. Then follow the steps below.

On the payment screen, the Surcharge Options button lets you take surcharges off the order you're charging. It's meant for that one order only.

How Surcharge Options works

  1. On the payment screen, tap Surcharge Options. The POS may ask for a login with the right access.

  2. Turn on Remove standard surcharge, Remove credit card surcharge, or both, for this order.

  3. Splitting the bill? Set the surcharge before you tap split payment. The standard surcharge can't be changed once the bill is split.

The card surcharge stays off for the next orders

In Nomni POS 2.11.87 and older, removing the card surcharge could stay in place for the orders that followed on the same iPad. This is fixed in Nomni POS 2.11.88 and later: the removal now resets for every new order. If an iPad is still on an older version:

  1. Before you charge the next card, check the card surcharge shows on the payment screen.

  2. If it's missing, tap Surcharge Options and turn Remove credit card surcharge off.

  3. Swiping Nomni POS closed and reopening it also brings the card surcharge back.

  4. Update every iPad to the latest Nomni POS from the App Store after service.

What you should see after updating: when you take the card surcharge off one order with Surcharge Options, the next order shows the card surcharge again. The hidden long press on the card button that used to skip the surcharge has also been removed.

Surcharge amounts and card types are set in Nomni Console. If the surcharge is wrong on every order, see Card surcharges from 1 October 2026: what to change in Nomni POS.
