How to share your online gift card page so customers get their gift card by email

Send customers to your gift card page, not a menu item, so the gift card is emailed to the recipient.

Quick answer: Customers must buy gift cards on your gift card page, not from your online ordering menu. Your gift card page is your store link with /giftcards on the end, for example https://w.abacus.co/store/1234567/giftcards (use your own Store ID). Gift cards bought there are emailed to the recipient. A "gift card" product added to your online ordering menu is sold like any other item. The customer only gets an order confirmation, not a gift card.

Who this is for: venue owners and managers who sell gift cards online and can sign in to Nomni Console.

Before you start

  • Your gift cards are set up and saved in Nomni Console under POS > Vouchers and Gift Cards > Web Store Design. Each card needs a name and a price above zero. See How to sell gift cards online (Web Store Design).

  • You know your Store ID. It's in your store link under Online Ordering > Publishing.

Find and share your gift card page

  1. Sign in to Nomni Console and go to Online Ordering > Publishing.

  2. Under OPTION 1: Store URL, click Copy link. Paste it somewhere you can edit it. The number after /Store/ is your Store ID.

  3. Add /giftcards to the end of the link, for example https://w.abacus.co/store/1234567/giftcards. If your link uses a custom name (it ends in /S/ and a name), build the link with your Store ID instead, as in the example.

  4. Open the new link in a private browser window to check it.

  5. Share the link. Put it on your website as a "Buy a gift card" button, in your social media posts and emails, or as a QR code in your venue.

What you should see: your gift card page with your gift cards under Select Card Value, a Recipient's Details form with From, Recipient's Name and Recipient's Email, a Gift Message box, and a Purchase Gift Card button.

What your customers do

  1. Choose a value under Select Card Value.

  2. Fill in From, Recipient's Name and Recipient's Email. All three are required. The gift card is sent to the Recipient's Email. To buy a card for themselves, they enter their own email.

  3. Optionally add a Gift Message of up to 56 characters.

  4. Tap Purchase Gift Card and pay.

What you should see: the customer sees a Thank you page and the recipient gets the gift card by email.

Remove gift card items from your online ordering menu

If you added a gift card as a product on your online ordering menu, remove it from the menu. Customers who buy it are charged, but no gift card is made or emailed. They only get the order confirmation.

For a customer who already bought a gift card from your menu, either refund the order or create the gift card for them by hand. See How to create, generate, find and refund vouchers and gift cards.

If something goes wrong

  • The page says "No gift cards are available for this store." No gift cards are saved for this store. Add them under POS > Vouchers and Gift Cards > Web Store Design and click Save.

  • "Required field" or "Invalid email address" shows on the form. Fill in all three recipient fields and check the email address has no typos or spaces.

  • The recipient didn't get the gift card email. Ask them to check their spam or junk folder and confirm the email address they entered. If it still hasn't arrived, contact us with the customer's order details and the recipient's email and we can resend it.

  • Your link opens your menu or an error instead of the gift card page. Check you added /giftcards straight after your Store ID, with no extra spaces.
