How to fix ERR_CREATE_CONNECTION when one iPad can't print but others can on Nomni POS

Steps for "ERR_CREATE_CONNECTION" or "Failed to connect to Printer" on one Nomni POS iPad when the printer still works from another iPad.

Quick answer: ERR_CREATE_CONNECTION (shown as Failed to connect to Printer) means this iPad couldn't open a connection to the printer. If another iPad can still print to the same printer, the printer and network are usually fine and the problem is on this iPad. Swipe Nomni POS closed and reopen it. If that doesn't fix it, restart the iPad. Then print one receipt from that iPad to check.

Who this is for: venue staff and managers using Nomni POS on iPad when one iPad (often the Master) shows ERR_CREATE_CONNECTION and won't print receipts or open the cash drawer.

Check where the problem is

  1. Check the printer is on, has paper and the cover is closed.

  2. From another iPad that uses the same printer, print a receipt or reprint an order.

What you should see: if the other iPad prints, follow the steps below on the iPad with the error. If no iPad can print, follow How to fix a printer that isn't printing or is missing from the printer list on Nomni POS (iPad) instead.

Fix it on the iPad with the error

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen (or double-press the Home button), swipe Nomni POS closed, then open it again.

  2. Print one receipt from this iPad. If it prints, you're done.

  3. If it still fails, check the iPad's network. Go to iPad Settings > Wi-Fi, make sure the iPad is on your POS network (not a guest network), tap the i next to it and turn Private Wi-Fi Address off.

  4. Go to iPad Settings > Nomni POS and check Local Network is on. If you changed it, swipe Nomni POS closed and reopen it.

  5. Restart the iPad: hold the top button (and a volume button on iPads without a Home button) until you see the slider, slide to power off, wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on. If this is the Master iPad, do it in a quiet moment. Slave iPads rely on the Master while it restarts.

  6. Open Nomni POS and print one receipt from this iPad.

What you should see: the receipt prints and the cash drawer opens again from this iPad.

Why print once: after a failed connection, Nomni POS stops retrying that printer from this iPad until a print gets through. One successful print gets it going again. On the Master iPad, keep Nomni POS open on screen and wait until the other iPads have finished printing before you try.
