About

The Bulk Import function allows you to quickly upload a large amount of data, such as a Products list. If you wish to import your data in English, follow the standard Bulk Import procedure.

If you wish to bulk import Japanese, Chinese, or Korean, read on. Abacus' Table Ordering application allows your customers to view your products in Japanese, Chinese, or Korean. You will need to bulk import Products, Product Variants, and finally the Table Ordering Menu in order to achieve something like this:

Note: Microsoft Excel cannot save CSV files with international characters so we recommend using Google Sheets, which can import and export to CSV.

Product

  1. Import your products in English using the standard Bulk Import procedure. This is so your subsequent bulk import has codes to refer to.

  2. Using Google Sheets, create a CSV file with the following headers: Product Code, Product Name, Short Description (optional), Full Description (optional), and Language.

  3. Fill in the Product Codes to exactly match the existing product codes.

  4. Fill in the Product Names and descriptions in your chosen language (Japanese, Chinese, or Korean)

  5. Under Language, enter your corresponding language code:

Japanese: ja-JP
Chinese: zh-CN
Korean: ko-KR

Note: This example shows the rows required for all three supported non-English languages, but if you wish, you can import just one language (additional to English).

6. Download the spreadsheet as a CSV file.

7. Go to POS Settings > Bulk Import. Choose "Product", select your CSV file, and Import.

Product Variants

  1. Import your product variants in English using the standard Bulk Import procedure. This is so your subsequent bulk import has codes to refer to.

  2. Using Google Sheets, create a CSV file with the following headers: Name, Translated Name, Language, Parent, Value Code, and Value Name.

  3. Fill in the Name and Parent to exactly match the existing English product variant name (eg. "Coffee Modifications").

  4. Fill in the Translated Name and Value Names in your chosen language (Japanese, Chinese, or Korean)

  5. Under Language, enter your corresponding language code:

Japanese: ja-JP
Chinese: zh-CN
Korean: ko-KR

6. Under Value Code, enter the exact code that corresponds to the English variant value, eg. if the product variant value "extra hot" has the value code A001, the Japanese variant value "余分な熱い" must also have the value code A001.

Note: This example shows the rows required for all three supported non-English languages, but if you wish, you can import just one language (additional to English).

7. Download the spreadsheet as a CSV file.

8. Go to POS Settings > Bulk Import. Choose "Product Variant", select your CSV file, and Import.

9. On the Master POS, go to Settings > Sync and Sync Changed Products and Extras.

Table Ordering Menu

  1. Go to iPad Menu > POS Menu and create a new menu.

2. Click the Edit (pencil) button to open it. Create Default Menu. This will create an English-only menu based on your products list.

3. Go Back and Export it as a CSV file. This CSV file is identical to the one you would need to export to the Table Ordering Menu.

4. Open the CSV file in Google Sheets.

5. Add in the new column "Language"

6. Copy and paste the existing menu to the empty rows underneath

7. Translate the pasted Text rows to your chosen language and enter the non-English language code under Language:
Japanese: ja-JP
Chinese: zh-CN
Korean: ko-KR

Note: This example shows importing just one non-English language to the table ordering menu. If you wish to import more than one, repeat steps 5 and 6 to add more translations underneath the existing rows.

8. Download the spreadsheet as a the CSV file.
9. Go to iPad Menu > Table Ordering Menu and Import your CSV file.

10. Click the Edit (pencil) button to view the menu.

11. Press Publish.

12. In the Table Ordering application, Sync Products and Menu.

You will be able to change available languages by pressing the English button and selecting the other languages.
