Coursing allows orders sent on the POS to be:

  • Grouped by courses set on the backend.

  • Printed and sent to the KDS based on configured settings.

  • Held if required.

This article covers:

Coursing print method

There are two coursing print methods:

  1. PREPARE AS YOU GO.

  2. PREPARE FIRST.

You can either print each course only when prompted and as per the backend settings so you can PREPARE AS YOU GO, or; print all your courses as soon as the order is placed so you can PREPARE FIRST then ‘fire’ each course.

Note: PREPARE FIRST will override any backend printing settings.

PREPARE AS YOU GO

The PREPARE AS YOU GO print method allows you to print the kitchen dockets for each course as the customer is ready for them.

  1. Go to A.58 COURSING PRINT METHOD, and select PREPARE AS YOU GO.

2. When the customer is ready for their first course, tap the green printer icon and then Print Entree.

3. When the customer is ready for their next course, (dessert, in this case) repeat step 2 for that course.

PREPARE FIRST

When PREPARE FIRST is enabled, the kitchen dockets will be printed immediately, for all items, organised by course. This means that the kitchen can start preparing all the courses.

Note: PREPARE FIRST will ignore any Held by Default settings on the backend.

  1. Go to A58. COURSING PRINT METHOD, and select PREPARE FIRST.

2. When the customer is ready for their first course, tap the green printer icon and then Fire Entree. When you ‘fire’ a course, the docket will print with:

  • ‘FIRE’ text.

  • Course name.

  • Table number.

  • Server name.

  • Time.

The docket to fire each course will be sent to each printer location of the included products. However, only one docket will print for that course, per printer.

Note: you can only fire a whole course, not individual items.

3. Repeat for all other courses.

Add products to a course

Course organisation

The A36. COURSE ORGANISATION setting must be enabled to arrange the layout of kitchen dockets by course, and/or assign courses to customers on the POS.

When COURSE ONLY is enabled, items can be grouped by course.

When COURSE AND GUEST is enabled, items can be grouped by course, and also assigned to a customer.

Adding an individual product to a course

  1. Go to Products > Products.

  2. Click the pencil icon on the item you want to assign a course to.

  3. Go to the ADVANCED tab.

  4. Select a course from the Default Courses drop down menu.

    5. Click the Save button.

Adding multiple products to a course

  1. Go to Products > Products.

  2. Tick the boxes of the products you want to add to the course.

  3. Click the Settings button.

  4. Select a Course from the drop down list.

Delay printing

Delay printing for a product

You can delay printing for an individual product. This means that when this product is ordered, it will be held regardless of what course it is in. Additionally, the docket will not print until you:

  • Go to the Held Orders page and send it to the kitchen, or

  • The product is requested on the KDS.

To hold a product by default:

  1. Go to Products > Products.

  2. Click the pencil icon on the item you want to delay printing for.

  3. Go to the ADVANCED tab and tick Held By Default.

Delay printing for a course

  1. Go to POS Settings > Course Settings.

  2. Click the Add New Course button to add courses.

3. Under Printing Behaviour, select:

  • Print immediately (default): dockets print as soon as the table has ordered that course, or

  • Hold printing: dockets will be queued in the background until they are manually sent from the POS.

Note: If you have selected Held by default for a specific product, but you have that product in a course that will Print immediately, Held by default will take precedence.
