About
If you want customers to scan a QR code at their table to view your menu and place an order, you'll need to create a unique QR code for each table. This ensures that when a customer orders, their table number is automatically recorded and sent through to your POS and kitchen.
Before you start
Make sure you have:
Products added to your database (Products > Quick Add)
A menu set up under Online Ordering > Menu
Order Types enabled under Online Ordering > Configuration (e.g. Eat In)
Opening Hours set and saved under Online Ordering > Opening Hours
Step 1: Find your store URL
Your online ordering store has a base URL in this format:
https://ou.abacus.co/Store/[storeID]
You can find your Store ID in your Nomni POS backend under Online Ordering > Publishing.
Step 2: Add a table number to the URL
To assign a QR code to a specific table, add ?table= followed by the table number to the end of your store URL. For example:
Table 1:
https://ou.abacus.co/Store/[storeID]?table=1Table 2:
https://ou.abacus.co/Store/[storeID]?table=2
You can use any numbers or letters for your table label, such as 1A or even bar.
Repeat this for every table in your venue, so each has its own unique URL.
Step 3: Generate a QR code for each URL
Use your preferred QR code generator to turn each table's unique URL into a QR code. This allows customers to scan the code with their phone rather than typing the URL manually.
Step 4: Print and place your QR codes
Print each QR code and place it on the corresponding table. Double check that each QR code's URL ends in the correct table number before printing — e.g. the QR code on Table 2 should link to a URL ending in ?table=2.
What happens when a customer scans
When a customer scans the QR code at their table, they'll be taken to your online menu with their table number automatically selected. Once they place an order, the table number will carry through to your POS and kitchen, so staff know exactly where to deliver it.
Keeping your QR codes up to date
Generating a new QR code does not automatically invalidate old ones. Any QR code encoding the same URL will continue to work unless the physical copy is removed or replaced.
Regularly check your printed QR codes and signage to make sure they're not damaged, outdated, or pointing to the wrong table.
