Quick answer: Find the docket on the Open tab. Tap the tick box next to an item when it is made. The item is marked complete. Then follow the steps below.

Kitchen staff use Nomni KDS to work through dockets. You complete items one at a time or the whole docket, and you can bring a docket back if it was closed by mistake.

Before you start

  • Who: Kitchen staff. A manager changes the settings.

  • Device: Nomni KDS on a tablet, connected to Nomni POS.

  • Permissions and settings: KDS must be connected to the Master POS. If Require Manager access to change settings is on, you need the manager PIN to change settings.

Complete an item

  1. Find the docket on the Open tab.

  2. Tap the tick box next to an item when it is made. The item is marked complete.

  3. For an item with a quantity above 1: if Complete one quantity with single tap is on, each tap completes one. Long press the tick box to enter a quantity, then tap Confirm Quantity.

Complete (bump) a whole docket

  1. Tap Done on the docket.

  2. If Double Tap Docket to Bump Off is on, there is no Done button. Double-tap anywhere on the docket instead.

  3. If Mark as Ready before Marking as Done is on, the docket first moves to Ready For Pickup. Tap Done again when the customer collects.

You should see the docket leave the Open tab and appear on the Completed tab.

Recall a docket

  1. Tap the Completed tab.

  2. Find the order by number, table or customer name.

  3. Tap Recall Docket. On KDS Go version 2.0.18 or later, this also shows on split dockets that have been completed.

  4. If To recall order require to enter pin is on, enter the PIN and tap Unlock.

You should see the docket back on the Open tab. If Reset order items on docket recall is on, every item is marked not done again.

Bump dockets automatically (optional)

  1. Open Settings on the KDS.

  2. Turn on Enable Auto Bump Off.

  3. Set Auto Bump Off Timer (Minutes). Leave it as 0 to turn auto bump off.

  4. Tap Save.

View an item or edit its note (KDS 2.0.17 and later)

  1. Tap the item name on the docket (not the tick box). The item details open, with the recipe and order details.

  2. In Item Note (it says Add instructions for this item when empty), type or change the note.

  3. Tap Save. To print just this item, tap Print.

What you should see: the details close and the note shows on the item. The KDS sends the note to the Master POS, so other screens get it too. Nomni POS for Android shows KDS note changes from version 2.3.23.

If you see Could not save the item note. Try again., the KDS could not reach the POS. Check the KDS shows Server Connected, then tap Save again. Cancelled items can't be edited.

Using the iPad KDS app?

The steps above use Nomni KDS for Android (KDS Go) names. On the iPad KDS app the names are different. See "Nomni KDS for iPad: settings explained".

  • iPad: tap an item to open it, then tap COMPLETED. Press and hold to complete part of the quantity. Tap DONE on the docket to complete the order.

  • iPad: tap Open Order at the bottom to switch to Closed Order, tap an item and tap RECALL.

  • iPad: auto bump is Auto bump-off on the GENERAL tab; ready-then-done is Mark as Ready before marking as Done.

If something goes wrong

  • No Completed Orders: nothing has been completed on this KDS since the last clear.

  • Docket disappears from other screens when you bump it: this is normal unless Suppress Kitchen Bump Propagation is on.

  • Dockets are not arriving: check the KDS shows Server Connected. If it shows Server Disconnected, see "KDS Connection Troubleshooting".

  • Orders look out of date: open Settings and tap Hard Reload Orders from Master POS.
