Nomni KDS 2.0.17: what's changed and how to update

How to update Nomni KDS to 2.0.17 and use the new docket and item note settings

Nomni KDS 2.0.17 fixes orders that stayed on screen, went missing or didn't load, stops the blank screen on start-up and reduces missing printed dockets. It adds two settings: Split docket to fit card and Use Product Colour For Extras. You can also now edit item notes on the KDS and send them to Nomni POS.

What changed

  • Old orders clear themselves. Ready or completed orders from a previous day no longer stay on screen. A docket moves to Completed only when the order is closed.

  • No blank screen on start-up (Android). The KDS asks for its permissions each time it starts, and shows a card if one is missing.

  • Fewer missing or repeated printed dockets. The KDS waits longer for large dockets to finish printing and reprints a docket at most once if it can't tell whether it printed. Out-of-paper and lid-open errors still retry for up to ten minutes.

  • Printer setup fixes. Blank LP1X test prints and first-time USB printer setup are fixed.

  • Cancelled orders stay cancelled. A cancelled order no longer resets on the KDS.

  • Fewer crashes. Preparation-time AI predictions are now off by default. You can turn them on again in Advanced Settings.

  • Easy Prep queue order. Only orders made up entirely of Easy Prep items jump the queue. Leftover items on mixed orders stay in time order.

  • Takeaway status in List View. Takeaway and delivery orders show their order type, for example "Take Away - 12". Dine-in orders still show the table.

  • Workflow orders no longer disappear. With Enable Workflow Status on, products with no stages now show in every stage.

  • Orders load after a restart. The KDS signs itself in again and loads orders after a restart.

  3. When it finishes, open the KDS and check that orders load.

How to split tall orders across docket cards

  1. On the KDS, open Settings > General.

  2. Turn on Split docket to fit card.

  3. Go back to the order screen.

What you should see: a large order spreads across several cards, so every item stays on screen.

Important: tapping Done or Ready on one split card completes only the items on that card. The rest of the order stays open on its other cards.

How to show extras in their own colour

  1. On the KDS, open Settings.

  2. Turn on Use Product Colour For Extras.

What you should see: the dockets refresh straight away. Extras that are products show in their own KDS colour, even when Split Extra Product As Item is off. The setting is off by default.

How to edit an item note and send it to Nomni POS

  1. Tap an item on a docket to open its details.

  2. Type in the Item Note box ("Add instructions for this item").

  3. Save the note.

What you should see: the note updates on this KDS, on your other KDS screens and in Nomni POS. You can't edit notes on cancelled items.

If something goes wrong

A permissions card or warning icon appears on start-up

  1. Tap Open Settings.

  2. Go to Apps > Kitchen Display > Permissions and turn on Location. Notifications are optional.

  3. Go back to the KDS and tap Retry.

No orders show after updating

  1. Fully close the KDS app and open it again.

  2. If you're asked to sign in, use your Nomni Console details.

  3. Check the device's date and time are correct.

"Could not save the item note. Try again."

  1. Check the KDS and Nomni POS are on the same network.

  2. Check both are on the latest version.

  3. Try saving the note again.

A docket didn't print

  1. Check the printer has paper and the lid is closed. The KDS keeps retrying these errors for up to ten minutes.

  2. Print a test page from the KDS printer settings.

  3. If dockets still don't print, contact us with the printer model.
