Use this guide for receipt and kitchen printers on Nomni POS for iPad. Pick the line that matches what you see and go straight to that part. If you've already tried a step, skip to the next one.
Nothing prints, or one printer stopped printing: go to part 1.
The printer isn't in the list, or Nomni POS can't find it: go to part 2.
The printer's self-test page shows no IP address: go to part 3.
Some items don't print, or print on the wrong printer: go to part 4.
Only orders taken on a Slave iPad or waiter pad don't print: go to part 5.
Uber Eats, DoorDash or online orders don't print: see Online orders not showing or not printing on Nomni POS.
If a message appears on screen, look it up in Printer messages on Nomni POS and Nomni KDS and what they mean.
1. Nothing prints, or one printer stopped printing
Check the printer icon in the top bar. Tap it to open your printer list. Print Tasks shows how many jobs are waiting. If the icon is flashing with a number, that many jobs couldn't print and are waiting. While the register is open, Nomni POS tries them again about every 30 seconds, so they print once the printer is back.
Check the printer itself. It's switched on, the lid is closed, there's paper, and there's no error light. If it's a network printer, check the network cable is firmly plugged in at both ends.
Send a test print. In the printer list, tap the printer, then tap PRINT next to Test Printer.
The test prints but orders don't: the printer is fine. The problem is which items go to it. Go to part 4.
The test doesn't print: turn the printer off, wait 10 seconds and turn it back on. Wait until it's fully started, then test again.
Still nothing? Check the iPad can reach the printer:
The iPad and the printer must be on the same POS network. On the iPad, go to iPad Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the i next to your POS network and turn Private Wi-Fi Address off.
Go to iPad Settings > Nomni POS and turn Local Network on. Then swipe Nomni POS closed and reopen it. iOS only applies this permission after the app restarts.
Set a backup printer so service isn't stopped by one printer. When you set a printer up, Nomni POS asks "Do you want to set this printer as a backup printer?" Jobs that fail on another printer are sent to the backup printer, with REDIRECTED PRINT TASK printed at the top.
Please don't delete and re-add the printer as a first step. Deleting a printer shows "Settings and locations will be lost. Are you sure?". You'd have to set up its printer locations again.
2. The printer isn't in the list, or Nomni POS can't find it
Tap the printer icon in the top bar, then ADD PRINTER. If the POS asks, a manager logs in (unless staff are allowed to change printer settings, setting B8). Nomni POS searches your network and lists what it finds under ADD DISCOVERED PRINTERS. Tap ADD PRINTER next to yours.
Not listed? Tap RE-DISCOVER PRINTERS.
If you see Local Network Access Required, Nomni POS isn't allowed to look for printers. Turn on Local Network for the app in iOS Settings, swipe the app closed and reopen it, then tap Retry.
Using an Epson printer? Go to Settings > Device Options and check Disable Epson Printers is off. When it's on, this iPad doesn't search for Epson printers.
Still not found? Tap MANUALLY ADD and type the printer's IP address from its self-test page (part 3). Choose the printer brand and model.
"Please enter a valid IPv4 Address": type it as four numbers separated by dots, for example 192.168.1.50.
"This IP Address is being used": another printer in your list already has that address. Check which printer it is before adding it again.
Finish the setup steps: Setup up IP Address, then Setup up Printer Locations (choose what this printer prints), then choose whether it prints receipts and bills, then whether it's a backup printer. Tap Test Printer to check.
3. The printer's self-test page shows no IP address
Nomni POS finds and prints to a network printer using its IP address. The self-test page shows the address the printer has right now. How you print it depends on the model: see Printer not printing? Step-by-step fix by printer model.
Compare the printer's address with the iPad's. You can see the iPad's under iPad Settings > Wi-Fi, then tap i. The first three groups of numbers should match, for example 192.168.1.50 and 192.168.1.20.
If the page shows no address, or one that doesn't match, the printer isn't on your POS network. Check its network cable is firmly plugged into the printer and into your router or network switch. Then turn the printer off and on and print the self-test again.
If it still has no address, your IT or network provider needs to check the cable and the port on the router or switch. They may need to give the printer a fixed address.
Once it has an address, add it in Nomni POS (part 2) or check the address saved for it matches.
4. Some items don't print, or print on the wrong printer
Each item prints on the printers that share its printer location. If an item has no matching location, it doesn't print anywhere. When setting C11 (Check Printer Locations Before Production) is on, Nomni POS warns you before sending.
Tap the printer icon, tap the printer and check its Printer Locations. They're the locations this printer prints.
In Nomni Console, check the item's printer location, then sync it to the iPads. Go to Settings > Sync and tap SYNC CHANGED PRODUCTS AND EXTRAS FROM BACKEND.
5. Only orders taken on a Slave iPad or waiter pad don't print
Kitchen dockets are prepared on the Master iPad, even for orders taken on a Slave. If the Master is closed, locked or disconnected, Slave orders can't print.
Check Nomni POS is open on screen on the Master iPad. Set iPad Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock to Never.
Check the Slave is connected to the Master: Slave iPad not connecting to the Master: troubleshooting.
Keep Nomni POS up to date
Printer fixes come in app updates. Update every iPad to the latest Nomni POS from the App Store after service.
