Visa, Mastercard or eftpos missing from the payment screen on Nomni POS (iPad)

Why some card buttons and card types disappeared after the October 2026 update, and how to take card payments now.

After updating Nomni POS for iPad in October 2026, venues in Australia may notice that Visa, MasterCard and EFTPOS no longer show as separate card buttons on the payment screen, or in the card type list that pops up when you take a card payment. This is expected. It isn't a fault, and nothing has been turned off in your settings.

Why this changed

From 1 October 2026, Australian businesses can't add a surcharge to Visa, Mastercard or eftpos card payments. Nomni POS used those card buttons to work out which card surcharge to add, so on venues that trade in Australian dollars the POS now hides them. It also hides All Cards, because the POS can't tell which card network was used in that mode.

Card types that can still carry a surcharge, such as American Express, Diners Club, JCB, Union Pay and Discover, still show unless you've turned them off. Nomni can update the list of hidden card types centrally if the rules change, without an app update.

How to take a card payment now

  1. On the payment screen, tap Credit Card.

  2. If the card type list pops up, tap the card the customer is using. For a Visa, Mastercard or eftpos card, tap Other Cards.

  3. Finish the payment on your card terminal as usual.

What you should see: the order is paid and no card surcharge is added for Visa, Mastercard or eftpos cards. The list only pops up if your venue asks staff to choose a card type (setting A18, Require Selection Of Card Type Upon Credit Card Transaction) or uses card surcharges set by card type.

If something doesn't look right

How do I a card surcharge is still added to a Visa, Mastercard or eftpos card?

Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the ▼ menu > Credit Card Surcharge.

  2. Tap each surcharge and tap Delete.

  3. If you used card-type surcharges, go to the backend Sales > Surcharge and remove the All Cards and card-type surcharges there too.

  4. If you turned on setting A18 Require selection of card type only for surcharges, it can be turned off once By Card Types is no longer selected in the backend.

  5. On the POS, go to Settings > Sync > Sync Payment Info so the change reaches every device.

  • You turned Visa or Mastercard back on but they still don't show: that's expected. Turning a payment method on in Settings > Payment > Manage Payments won't bring these buttons back while the surcharge rules apply. Use Credit Card and then Other Cards.

  • American Express, Diners Club or another card is missing too: it may be turned off. Go to Settings > Payment > Manage Payments and check it's on. See Hide or turn off a payment method on Nomni POS.

  • Only some iPads changed: the iPads that still show the old buttons haven't been updated. Update every iPad to the latest Nomni POS from the App Store so they all work the same way.

  • Your reports show Other Cards where you used to see Visa or Mastercard: that's because payments are now recorded under the card type you pick. For a split by card network, use your card terminal's or bank's settlement report.
