"Reboot Master iPad" banner on Nomni POS: what to do

Why the Master iPad asks to be restarted, and how to restart it safely

Quick answer: Finish or hold any open orders, and make sure no card payment is in progress. Press and hold the top button and either volume button until slide to power off appears. Then follow the steps below.

Nomni POS for iPad shows a banner on the Master iPad when it has been running for a long time without a full restart. Use this guide when you see Reboot Master iPad recommended or Reboot Master iPad now.

Why it matters

After about 49 days without a restart, iPadOS can stop accepting new network connections. When that happens on the Master, Slave iPads, KDS screens and printers can all go offline at once. Restarting the iPad clears it.

What to do

Reboot Master iPad recommended

"This Master iPad has been running for [time]. To prevent network connectivity issues, please plan to fully power off and restart this iPad within the next few days."

Plan a restart at a quiet time in the next few days.

Reboot Master iPad now

The Master has been running long enough that devices may soon go offline.

Restart as soon as you can.

How to restart the Master iPad

  1. Finish or hold any open orders, and make sure no card payment is in progress.

  2. Press and hold the top button and either volume button until slide to power off appears.

  3. Slide to turn the iPad off. Wait 30 seconds.

  4. Press and hold the top button until the Apple logo appears.

  5. Open Nomni POS and log in.

  6. Check each Slave, KDS and printer reconnects. Restart any that don't.

What you should see: the banner is gone, and Slaves show they are connected to the Master.

Closing the app or locking the screen is not enough. The iPad must be fully powered off and on.

"App Update Required"

If Nomni POS shows App Update Required with "App will expire on [date]", your version is too old and will stop working on that date. Update Nomni POS from the App Store before then (see "How to update Nomni POS"). If the update isn't offered, contact us.

If something goes wrong

Devices still offline after the restart

Restart the Wi-Fi router, then the Master, then each device. See "Master and Slave connection troubleshooting" and "Fix Wi-Fi drops on your Nomni POS iPad".
