In fine dining, it's common practice to notify the kitchen when guests have finished their entrées and are ready for their main courses. This is referred to as "calling mains away" or "firing mains." ABACUS POS allows you to send such notifications as Notes directly to the kitchen. This guide will show you how to create a Note on the POS menu that you can use for tasks like "mains away" or other custom messages.

Sending a note to the kitchen

For you to call mains away, or add another note to an order, you will need to create a Note on the POS Menu.

To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Menus Section:

    • In the backend, navigate to Menus and click on the POS Menu tab.

    • Find the menu you want to modify and click the pencil icon to edit it.

2.Create a Note Tab (If Not Already Created):

  • If you don’t have a Note tab yet, you’ll need to create one:

    • Click the Add Tab button.

    • Enter Note as the Group Name, and then click Save.

3. Add a Note to the Tab:

  • In the Note tab, click Add Item.

  • Under the Note field, type in the note you want to send to the kitchen (e.g., Mains Away or Fire Mains).

  • Specify the Print Locations where this note should be sent (e.g., kitchen printer or screen).

4. Save the Note:

  • Once you’ve entered the note details and print locations, click Save.

5. Publish the Menu:

  • After adding the note, click the Publish button to make the changes live on the POS.
