Your average speed of service is the average amount of time it takes for your staff to take an order, and for your kitchen to complete the meal. This is the preparation time plus the time it took to put through an order.

How it's calculated

You need to be using a KDS (kitchen display screen) to calculate the speed of service and preparation time.

  • The speed of service for each order is counted from the moment the first item is added to an order, until the moment the order has been finalised and paid off

  • The preparation time is counted from the moment the whole order is sent to the KDS, until the moment the last item on that order is ticked off on the KDS. It excludes the amount of time taken to put through the order

In both of these cases, the order needs to be finalised after it has been ticked off on the KDS.

How to set it up

  1. On the backend, go to POS Settings > Abacus Settings

  2. Turn on the setting Z1. ENABLE KDS PRODUCTION PROGRESS TRACKING. This is a hidden setting that you won't find on the POS.

  3. Perform a Master Sync on the POS

  4. When prompted to "Notify Clients", accept the prompt so that the KDS has the changes as well.

Now your Speed of Service and Preparation Time will be calculated with every order!
