Perk targeting rules: choose which customers can see and use a perk

L
Written by Lucien Hopkinson

Quick answer: On the perk's Eligibility tab, go to Targeting rules and click Add new rule. Choose a rule type, an operator and a value, then click Add. If you add more than one rule, a customer must meet all of them. With no rules, the perk applies to all customers.

Steps

  1. In the Nomni Console (the Nomni POS back office), click Loyalty Marketing in the top bar, then go to Perks > Perks List. Open the perk, or click Add New Perk.

  2. Click Next to go to the Eligibility tab, then go to Targeting rules.

  3. Click Add new rule. A "New targeting rule" panel opens.

  4. Choose the rule Type. Types are grouped (see below).

  5. Choose the Operator, for example Equals, Between, Greater Than or In.

  6. Enter or pick the Value, then click Add.

  7. Repeat for any more rules. The grid shows each rule's Type, Operator and Value, with edit and delete buttons.

  8. Click Save Perk. New, edited and deleted rules are saved together with the perk. Nothing changes until you save.

Rule types

Customer

  • Age, Customer Tag, Gender, Is New User (YES or NO), Postcode, Join Date.

Birthday

  • Birthday (month), Birthday Day, Birthday Year.

Membership

  • Membership Level, Membership Level Upgrade (needs a Membership Level rule on the same perk), Membership Level Visit.

Order / Activity

  • Order Count: number of orders.

  • Order Inactive: days since the customer's last purchase. Use Equals, Greater Than or Equal To, or Less Than or Equal To. Customers who have never purchased don't qualify.

  • Product: a product must be in the cart.

  • Product Category: a product from a category must be in the cart, with a minimum quantity.

  • Product Count: stamp-card perks. Use only Equals (equal to), Greater Than or Equal (at least) or Greater Than (more than). Other operators may show in the list but can't be saved yet. See "Run a stamp-card perk (buy 5, get the next one free) with the Product Count rule".

Location / Time

  • Current Store: the site where the order is placed.

  • Event Campaign: a date and time window.

Some types, such as Product Count, only show if your account supports them.

Who sees a perk they don't qualify for yet?

By default, customers who fail a profile rule don't see the perk. These are Age, Birthday, Birthday Day, Birthday Year, Customer Tag, Gender, Is New User, Postcode, Order Inactive and Join Date. To show it to them anyway (they still can't redeem it), turn on Display perk when customer is ineligible in the Perk visibility card.

Perks that depend on the cart or the moment of ordering stay visible so customers can work towards them, for example Product, Product Category, Product Count, Current Store and Event Campaign.

Common messages

  • "Please select type for the rule." or "Please select operation for the rule." Choose a Type and an Operator before clicking Add.

  • "Please enter a positive whole number of inactive days." Order Inactive needs a whole number of days, for example 90.

  • "Please select a membership level." Pick the tier from the list.
