Nomni KDS not getting orders from the POS (CONNECTED: NO, Server Disconnected)

Fix a kitchen display that has stopped showing orders, on iPad or Android.

Use this guide if your kitchen display (KDS) has stopped showing new orders, shows CONNECTED: NO or AUTHORISED: NO, or shows the message Server Disconnected.

There are two KDS apps. Follow the part for yours:

  • Nomni KDS for iPad (Kitchen Display Screen app). Settings show CONNECTED and AUTHORISED.

  • Nomni KDS for Android (KDSGo, for example on iMin or Sunmi screens). Settings have tabs such as Device Setup, Screen Layout and General.

Before you start

  • You need the Master POS and the KDS in front of you.

  • Both must be on the same venue Wi-Fi network. A guest Wi-Fi or a second router usually blocks them from finding each other.

  • Check the Master POS is on and logged in. The KDS gets its orders from the Master.

Nomni KDS for iPad

  1. On the Master POS, open Settings > Connection. Check the device is set to Master and note its DEVICE ADDRESS.

  2. On the KDS, open General Settings and check CONNECTED and AUTHORISED.

  3. Check the KDS is on the same Wi-Fi as the Master. Turn off Private Wi-Fi Address for that network on both iPads.

  4. Enter the Master's device address on the KDS and connect.

  5. If AUTHORISED: NO: on the Master POS, open Settings > Connection, find the KDS in the client list and turn on its authorisation.

  6. Restart the Master POS app, then the KDS app.

  7. On the KDS, tap HARD RELOAD ORDERS FROM MASTER POS.

What you should see:CONNECTED: YES and AUTHORISED: YES, and open orders on the KDS.

Nomni KDS for Android

  1. Open Settings > Device Setup on the KDS.

  2. Check Order Source matches your POS: Android POS, iOS POS, Cloud or KDS Master (when another KDS is the main kitchen screen).

  3. Check the KDS signed in with the same company login as the POS. If it shows Please check the login credentials of the KDS. It should use the same company credentials as the POS., log out and sign in again with the POS company login.

  4. If the KDS can't find the POS by itself, enter the Master POS IP address and tap Connect.

  5. If a warning icon shows in the top bar, tap it. Turn on Location: the KDS needs it to find the POS on the Wi-Fi. If the prompt doesn't appear, go to Settings > Apps > Kitchen Display > Permissions on the device.

  6. Open Settings > General and tap Reload next to Hard Reload Orders from Master POS.

What you should see: the message Server Connected, and open orders on the KDS.

If something goes wrong

  • It works, then drops every time the internet goes down: the Master POS is probably getting a new IP address from the router. Ask your IT provider to give the Master POS a fixed (reserved) IP address.

  • Device limit exceeded on the Master's Connection page, or Client device connection limit reached: you have more devices connected than your plan allows. On the Master, remove old devices you no longer use from the client list, then try again. If you need another KDS licence, message us.

  • Company does not match: the KDS is logged in to a different company than the POS. Log the KDS out and sign in with the POS company login.

  • Orders show but some items are missing: see Some orders or items are missing on the Nomni KDS.

  • Still not connecting: send us the Device Register Code of the Master and the KDS, and a photo of the KDS connection screen.

For your IT provider

The POS and KDS find each other on the local network (Bonjour/mDNS) and talk directly over Wi-Fi. Make sure client isolation (AP isolation) is off on the venue Wi-Fi and these local ports are not blocked: 8268 (Android POS), 8180 and 8081 (Nomni KDS for Android), 8080 (iPad POS).
